Welcome to our Whittier Branch
The MUSIC TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA is an organization founded and incorporated in 1897 to promote the welfare of the music teachers of the state, and to elevate the Educational and Teaching standards of its members. The exacting qualifications for membership in the Association establish the member as a qualified accredited teacher in the community. You can learn more about MTAC in the state of California at our state website.
The WHITTIER BRANCH was chartered in 1955 with twenty-two active members. Membership includes Instrumental and Vocal teachers, College Instructors, Composers, and Public School Music Teachers. The first President was Carroll Clevenger and our current President is Tammy Tsai. There are now 65 members of the Whittier Branch. We meet on Mondays at 10 am in various locations. We include String and Piano Master Classes on Sundays, a YAG concert February 27, as well as Certificate of Merit, Branch Honors, Musicales (recitals), Composers Today Recital, a Senior Recital Competition as well as a Concerto Competition in which winners perform with a professional orchestra. To maintain your Active Status we require attendance at three meetings in a year prior to entering students in branch programs. Members may check your attendance record as of December 5, 2011, by downloading a (pdf) document: click here.
